Job Summary :

Support new product development, sustaining product production, and continuous product & process improvements by developing CAD models, layouts of product assemblies and simple mechanisms, and component details under the direction of an engineer or designer. Accurately documents product design intent in accordance with Taylor standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Utilize 3D CAD tools to develop and communicate design concepts, complete models, layouts, and details for new or revised products assemblies and components.
  • Completes product design documentation including design models, assembly drawings, component details and specifications, item descriptions and BOM’s that are consistent with established standards and procedures.
  • Works with engineers and other team members to develop new product concepts and improve the cost and quality of existing product offerings. Supports design evaluation and analysis, development of product cost estimates, and confers with engineering staff to resolve product design issues.
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of design project and production activity.
  • Provide direction to the model shop for the fabrication and assembly of prototypes and test set-ups.
  • Assist on the manufacturing floor during new product introductions, implementation of product modifications and special orders, and participates in continuous improvement Kaizen events.
  • Provide estimates of time required to meet objectives.
  • Provide technical and other progress reports as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

None

Education:

  • Graduate of Technical or Vocational School or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

  • 0-7 years of professional product design experience.
  • Demonstrated 3D CAD Solid Modeling skills / training; PTC Creo design software experience preferred for the development of design concepts and product documentation.
  • Sound mechanical design aptitude; knowledge of basic engineering analysis such as material selection, simple force and stress, tolerance, etc.
  • General knowledge of various fabrication & component manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • General knowledge of modular BOM structuring techniques.
  • General knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing techniques.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in office, lab and shop floor environment (temperature controlled/non-temperature controlled)
  • Ability to perform testing and evaluation functions in an enclosed environmental chamber.
  • Extended periods of sitting, standing and walking.
  • Lifting/moving objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Regular use of hands and fingers to type on keyboard, operate computer mouse, hand tools, use of telephone and various office equipment.
