On Line Design is currently looking for a full-time Senior Director of Quality and Food Safety in Cincinnati, OH. In this role, you will be responsible for leading all aspects of product quality and food safety within the plant and the company. This role directs all Food Safety, Regulatory, Sanitation, and Product Quality activities. You will be asked to work closely with the Sr. Director of Operations and the Leadership team to improve Quality & Food Safety systems based on organizational performance, changing regulations, and customer demand and requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Enhance and maintain quality standards by understanding product and customer requirements with other members of management and quality assurance. Ensure customer, internal and regulatory standards are effectively implemented and delivered.
- Managing daily compliance with food safety regulations, overseeing sanitation programs, quality assurance, leading audit preparation & food safety initiatives, monitoring plant programs, and ensuring the daily implementation of food safety standards using KPI and other metric measurements
- Balance strategic oversight with day-to-day quality operations, fostering a culture of excellence, continuous improvement and accountability using tools such as SPC, Six Sigma, and Lean.
- Hands on management of the quality department and all quality programs (FSMA, HACCP, SQF, GMP, Consumer / Customer Complaint, Label Control, Pest Control, Supplier Approval and Verification, Environmental monitoring, Product Verification, Crisis Management, Sanitation, Housekeeping, Allergen management, gluten-free and others) ensuring daily production compliance.
- Lead plant environmental monitoring programs and verify that their corrective actions and hygiene/sanitation programs are robust and mitigate risk. Lead root cause analysis and CAPA (Corrective and Preventative Action)
- Act as SQF plant practitioner and serve as the plant’s subject matter expert for all food safety and regulatory compliance matters.
- Drive Quality & Food Safety Initiatives using a hands-on approach rooted in collaboration, communication and knowledge/education/training.
- Ensure product consistency and compliance through development and maintenance of standard operating procedures SOPs, robust testing, documentation, and corrective/preventative actions.
- Oversee quality control systems including hold and release programs, traceability exercises, and lab procedures.
- Oversee, maintain, and develop food safety programs; product functionality evaluations; process verification programs; internal and external audits including corrective actions, and environmental microbiological monitoring programs.
- Conduct Quality and Food safety training and education for team members through Alchemy coursework and specialized in-person training related to quality and food safety.
- Interface with local, state, and federal agencies (e.g., FDA, USDA) during audits or inspections.
- Act as a liaison for regulatory compliance agencies (i.e. FDA, Kosher, Halal, and others)
- Lead, mentor, and develop the quality team and culture, including QA technicians, plant managers/leads/operators and sanitation personnel.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of food safety regulations and emerging industry trends.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Food Science or related field preferred
- 10+ years of experience in food manufacturing quality roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
- SQF Practitioner, HACCP and PCQI certifications.
- Must have practical experience in developing and implementing HAACP plans and/or Food Safety & Quality plans.
- Extensive experience in food safety and quality functions, with specific expertise in food processing, food safety, regulatory compliance, quality control and assurance, team/culture development, continuous improvement and customer and supplier interaction.
- Deep technical knowledge of food processing and packaging industry.
- In-depth knowledge of GMP, HACCP, FSMA, and third-party certification schemes (e.g., SQF, BRC).
- Understands GMP requirements in supply chain operations.
- Deep regulatory knowledge within the US and Canada.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, implement systems, and influence cross-functional partners.
- Excellent collaboration, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Computer literate in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with ERP and QA software systems.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
