JOB SUMMARY:
The Director, Operational Excellence will lead strategic initiatives to drive operational excellence across National Gypsum Company. This role involves developing and executing comprehensive strategies, leading continuous improvement efforts, and ensuring the stability and efficiency of manufacturing operations. The Director will report directly to the VP Operations and collaborate closely with senior leadership.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (not all inclusive):
Leadership and coaching on safety and our safety culture:
• Safety is our core value. Lead Corporate Safety Director and network of Safety professionals across the company to actively promote and support safety programs and policies. Ensure that safety is a top priority in all operations and decision-making processes. Lead by example to demonstrate commitment to a safe working environment.
Operations strategic leadership:
• In conjunction with senior leadership, drive strategical operational excellence across our network of factories and quarries in alignment with our Company’s strategic goals.
• Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for implementing the operations roadmap.
• Plan, design, and deliver predictable and measurable standard work procedures.
• Collaborate with cross functional teams on strategic planning and data-driven decision-making.
Drive continuous improvement:
• Lead initiatives to improve business results and meet customer requirements.
• Identify and implement process improvements and best practices to enhance efficiency.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement throughout the organization.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives and optimize processes.
• Establish and monitor performance metrics to ensure continuous improvement.
• Apply lean principles to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
• Lead the implementation and development of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools.
Own the manufacturing stability playbook and drive compliance:
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and plant managers to identify and prioritize strategic projects that make improvements through observation and feedback. (Kaizen).
• Ensure that all operational processes adhere to regulatory standards and compliance.
• Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and improve operational performance.
Lead and develop our operations leadership team:
• Provide overall leadership for Operational Excellence and mentor key contributors.
• Conduct employee performance evaluations and implement training programs.
• Work with Regional Manufacturing Managers to identify and develop the succession of Plant Managers and other operational management roles.
Act as a key member of the capital budgeting and strategy process:
• Build capital strategic plans aligned with Company Strategies and Goals.
• Manage budgets and resource allocation across multi-site plant facilities.
Champion National Gypsum’s change management culture:
• Lead change efforts for adopting new behaviors, systems and processes that adopt an industrial engineering mindset for driving performance improvements.
• Facilitate collaboration across departments to maintain smooth workflows.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience: 10-15 years in senior operational excellence, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement role. Must have a demonstrated track record of delivering productivity, machine efficiency and development of operational leadership teams in a manufacturing environment. Familiarity with industry specific regulatory requirements.
• Leadership Skills: Strong leadership, team management and interpersonal skills. Foster a culture of excellence.
• Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. Results oriented with a strong focus on achieving measurable outcomes.
• Communication Skills: Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
