We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Upper Middle School English Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to fostering a love of literature, language, and composition in young students, placing an emphasis on analytical thinking, research, and essay writing to prepare students for a robust and challenging Upper School program. 

This individual will create a positive, engaging classroom environment and use innovative teaching methods to support student growth. The Middle School English Teacher will work closely with colleagues on the 7th and 8th grade teaching team and in the Middle & Upper School English Department to design and implement a curriculum that meets our accelerated standards while inspiring creativity and academic excellence.

The ideal candidate will hold a deep passion for their role as a classroom English teacher and has an appreciation for and understanding of the middle school years. The ideal candidate will be invested in helping to create a positive community culture, aware of the more complex social dynamics and unique challenges that come with early adolescence. They will possess a desire to be a supportive role model and help students with increased independence and responsibility. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaches 7th and 8th grade English. Develop and implement lesson plans that engage students and align with the middle school English curriculum.
  • Teach reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and speaking skills, focusing on both comprehension and expression.
  • Provide a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation and respect for diverse perspectives.
  • Assess student progress through a variety of methods, including tests, projects, presentations, and formal writing assignments.
  • Offer feedback and guidance to help students improve their writing and reading comprehension skills.
  • Encourage students to develop their critical thinking and communication skills through discussions, debates, and group activities.
  • Foster a love of reading by recommending books, leading book clubs, and promoting independent reading.
  • Promote student engagement through the integration of technology, multimedia, and creative teaching techniques.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, parent-teacher conferences, professional development activities, and divisional activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of teaching experience. Experience working with middle school-aged children in a classroom setting is strongly preferred.
  • A passion for English Language Arts and a commitment to continuing education.
  • Strong knowledge of middle school English curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire students to reach their full potential
