Job Description

Position : Research Biologist

Duration : 6-month contract with extensions - long term

Location : Lemont, Illinois (on-site everyday)

PR : $20-24/hr

Shift : 8-5pm CST (flexible with weekend availability, 40 hours max)

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, or related field.
• 2+ years of hands-on laboratory experience with the analyzing of samples from lab experiments including gas, soil slurry and water parameters.
• Experience in analyzing composition of gas and bioreactor environment.
• Proficient with Excel and GC, HPLC, ICP, chromatography, microscopy, and spectrophotometry.
• Understanding of good laboratory safety practices.
• Experience with method development and writing standard operating procedures.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

Plusses:

• Experience in assessing health and safety hazards and controls as well as QA/QC, and in writing Environmental Health and Safety plans for research projects.
• Advanced degree
• Knowledge or hands on experience operating nanofiltration/reverse osmosis devices
• Knowledge and experience with chromatography techniques are desirable
• Experience in designing, operating, and scaling chemical separations processes

Responsibilities:

• Conduct literature search and review and report findings.
• Run and maintain fermenters at various scales (bench- and pilot-scale).
• Develop and refine methods for the analysis of samples taken from highly complex bioreactor environment.
• Conduct gas-chromatography and HPLC analyses of samples collected from fermenter operations at lab-scale and pilot-scale.
• Isolate DNAs from collected samples for qPCR and metagenomic analyses.
• Conduct analysis of slurry and water samples using spectrophotometry and other regular laboratory equipment.
• Operate manual and automatic lab instruments and equipment, such as such as FT-IR, UV-VIS, ICP.
• Manage lab activities, including the analysis of health and safety hazards, the preparation of suitable health and safety plans, and the maintenance of a neat, clean and organized environment in the lab.
• Manage sample collection, archives, and analytical data files.
• Considerable skills in oral, written and presentation communications.
