Job Description

Job Summary:

Applicants for this position must model Christ-like behavior and attitudes which will positively impact students in leading them to Christ.  She/He must be able to deliver instruction on the indicated subjects or grade levels to students using a variety of teaching methods and activities. The selected employee will also be responsible for other school duties as may be assigned by the principal.

Seeking a resource teacher for its Middle School Writing and Math program.  Candidates with a teaching credential and experience working with students in grades 6-8 will have preferential consideration for this 26 hour per week position.  Successful candidate will be teaching small group Math and Writing classes in grade 6-8.  The school desires a teacher who works well with a team of teachers, possesses good classroom management skills, and loves students.  The teacher should be able to work with a variety of students and is able to assess the needs of each student.


Skills, Education, and Experience Required:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree required.
  • North American Division (Denominational) Teacher Certification is required and must be maintained.
  • Applicant must be a Seventh-day Adventist church member in good standing. Applicant must possess a love for God, a love for working with children, and a desire to see each child in Heaven.
  • Successful classroom experience is preferred. Must have a service-oriented attitude, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to work with students and families of diverse backgrounds.
  • Possessing competent technology skills using current educational software and hardware is essential.
  • Must be organization, have attention to detail, be self-directed, and motivated.
  • Absolute confidentiality is required.
  • Curriculum familiarity, content knowledge, as well as proficient instructional delivery are crucial.
  • Applicants must be a tithe paying Seventh-day Adventist church memeber.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Promote the Seventh-day Adventist philosophy, ensuring that all subject matter is taught from a Seventh-day Adventist perspective based on curriculum guidelines and requirements of the North American Division, Southern Union Conference and Florida Conference.
  • Develop and submit weekly lesson plans to the principal as required.  Lesson plans are to include Objectives, Procedures and Evaluation for each learning style.  Must also demonstrate evidence of lesson/unit planning and preparation that honors individual diversity and builds upon prior knowledge.
  • Select subject matter that is academically and developmentally appropriate for diverse abilities and interests.
  • Employ a variety of teaching techniques and activities appropriate to student learning styles and subject matter, stimulate critical and creative thinking, and monitor student understanding.
  • Use a variety of evaluate techniques to provide feedback and communicate progress, providing opportunities for students to learn from mistakes as well as successes.
  • Utilize appropriate classroom management routines that facilitate student engagement and continuity.
  • Provide for individual differences through diagnostic and prescriptive teaching.
  • Communicate challenging expectations that encompass critical and creative thinking as well as problem-solving skills.
  • Maintain a classroom climate conducive to student learning, allowing sufficient time for academic activities.
  • Utilize effective behavior management techniques which promote self-discipline.
  • Systematically involve all students in the instructional process and encourage intellectual risk taking.
  • Maintain accurate and organized student class records (attendance, grades, etc.) on the school's Student Information System in compliance with administration.
  • Communicate with parents regularly, keeping them well-informed.

The Middle School ESS teacher provides instruction and supplemental instruction to middle school students who struggle in mathematics, reading, and writing. This teacher functions as the teacher-of-record for several classes and provides support services for other classrooms and students. As such, weekly lesson plans and grades are required. This teacher, also, manages Edgenuity, an online learning system that supports students who cannot succeed in mainstreamed classes. A high level of collaboration with classroom teachers, the ESS director, and administration is expected. The Middle School ESS teacher must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good standing and provide academic, emotional, and spiritual support to students in harmony with the Seventh-day Adventists beliefs and FLEC and Florida Conference policies.
