We’re a small team in growth mode, actively expanding our backend infrastructure, API integrations, and scalability solutions to support more landlords, vendors, and financial partners.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer (APIs & Scalability) to design, build, and optimize integrations, while also focusing on high-volume data processing, database scalability, and optimizing backend infrastructure.

This is a high-impact, senior-level role responsible for ensuring Occupi’s backend is fast, reliable, and scalable as we grow. You will work on API integrations with property management systems and vendors, while also building internal backend services to process large datasets, handle concurrent transactions, and scale our data infrastructure efficiently.

What You’ll Do

• Develop & Maintain Integrations → Architect, build, and manage APIs for seamless data exchange between Occupi and third-party platforms (vendor & landlord systems).
• Build Scalable Backend Services → Develop services that handle large datasets, high-volume API transactions, and concurrent data processing.
• Optimize Performance & Scalability → Ensure APIs and backend services are highly performant, scalable, and fault-tolerant under increasing load.
• Work with Financial APIs → Maintain and enhance integrations with Finix, Stripe, Cash App, Paypal, and more
• Ensure Security & Compliance → Implement OAuth, role-based access control (RBAC), and encrypted data handling to meet security and privacy standards.
• Enhance System Reliability → Design robust error handling, monitoring, and retry mechanisms to ensure reliable API transactions and system uptime.
• Collaborate with Vendors & Founding Team → Work closely with vendors, landlords, and internal teams to align backend solutions with business goals.
• Lead Backend Architecture Strategy → Define best practices for API development, system interoperability, data scaling, and backend infrastructure.

• Backend → AWS (Lambda, S3, API Gateway)
• Database & Data Processing → PostgreSQL (scalable DB design)
• Integrations → RESTful & GraphQL APIs, Webhooks, OAuth2, Finix, Stripe, Cash App, PayPal, Auth0
• Infrastructure & Deployment → GitLab CI/CD
• Security & Auth → Auth0 for authentication, RBAC for access control

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of experience in backend development, with a focus on API integrations and data scalability
• Proven skills in Javascript/Typescript, Node.js, Express.js, and React
• Strong expertise in AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, S3)
• Experience integrating with property management systems, vendor APIs, and financial services
• Proficiency in building RESTful and GraphQL APIs
• Deep understanding of high-volume transaction processing and scalable database architecture
• Proficiency in OAuth2, authentication flows, and secure API communication
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI/CD or similar)
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-growth environment

Bonus Points

• Experience in real estate, fintech, or property management integrations
• Familiarity with ETL pipelines, webhook-driven architectures, and event-driven data flows
• Knowledge of RBAC, data encryption, and financial security compliance
• Enthusiasm for building and scaling backend infrastructure for a rapidly growing platform
