Job Title : Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Location : New York, NY - Flatiron District (We will provide relocation for non-local candidates)
Salary : $150,000-$155,000 + Equity

Based in NYC, we are a well-known consumer electronics product / brand. Due to continued growth, we are hiring for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer as soon as possible. In this role, you will drive new product development and continuous improvement effects for our existing products.
An ideal candidate has a strong background in design engineering, injection molding, SolidWorks and has worked with consumer electronics products.
The right candidate has experience working with overseas suppliers and contract manufacturers and has a strong sense of high-volume data as an input to engineering analysis. If this sounds like you, please apply!
This is a full time, permanent position in the Flatiron District (4 days a week onsite, 1 day a week remote). If you are interested in the position but are not local, we will help provide relocation assistance.
Key: Responsibilities :
New Product Introduction
- Collaborate with Industrial Design, Engineering, Marketing, and leadership teams to conceptualize and develop new products.
- Oversee the engineering lifecycle of products from initial concept through to mass production.
- Partner with teams to define product and technical requirements.
- Lead optimization efforts using analytical and experimental techniques, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Design of Experiments (DOE).
- Work with Reliability & Quality Engineers and suppliers to identify risks, validate designs, and prepare them for large-scale manufacturing.
- Lead design reviews and contribute to Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), test planning, and test procedure development.
- Spearhead advanced R&D initiatives, researching and collaborating to introduce new technologies, materials, and finishes to enhance product design and functionality.
Value Analysis/Value Engineering
- Assess product designs, manufacturing processes, and suppliers to identify cost reduction opportunities.
- Prioritize cost-saving initiatives, guiding them through design, engineering, Request for Quote (RFQ), validation, and implementation stages until mass production.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead post-launch sustaining activities, conducting root cause analysis for product quality issues, and collaborating with Quality and Operations teams to resolve them.
- Review existing product designs to identify weaknesses, propose improvements, and implement solutions while monitoring their effectiveness.
- Contribute to audits and reviews of manufacturing processes and quality systems at supplier facilities.
General Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical lead for projects, ensuring progress aligns with the company's structured development process.
- Create high-quality documentation, including presentations, drawings, test reports, and test procedures.
- Travel internationally as needed to engage with suppliers on-site.
- Participate in evening calls with teams and suppliers in Asia (typically 2 nights per week).
Must-Have Skills :
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 6+ years of experience in Design Engineering, with a focus on high-volume consumer electronic products.
- Proven experience collaborating with overseas suppliers and contract manufacturers.
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including surfacing, top-down modeling, simulation, assemblies, and 2D drafting.
- Expertise in high cavitation injection molding, 2K molding, sheet metal forming, and machining processes.
- In-depth knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, assembly techniques, electronics, and production methods.
- Strong ability to leverage high-volume data for engineering analysis.
- Demonstrated experience in consulting with subject matter experts and utilizing industrial guides and standards to address complex challenges.
- Skilled in quickly developing proof-of-concept and cosmetic prototypes using a combination of outsourced and in-house fabrication methods.
- Extensive experience in risk assessment and mitigation, as well as design validation processes.
- Deep familiarity with Design for Manufacturability (DFM), including optimizing mold designs and using mold flow analysis to enhance production efficiency.
- Solid experience working with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and performing tolerance stack analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information effectively.
- Strong project management abilities, with the capability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously.
