Marine Terminal Operations Manager
SeaGate Terminals in Chesapeake, VA is currently hiring a Marine Terminal Operations Manager. We specialize in the material handling of bulk and containerized goods. We have a dual Class 1 rail and deep-water river access.
Description: The Marine Terminal Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the terminal. This is a strategic and hands-on role that requires a proactive and adaptable individual capable of coordinating with a diverse group of clients, internal teams, and stakeholders at all levels of the organization to ensure smooth and efficient operations. This role is crucial to ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of our terminal, managing staff, and optimizing logistics to meet the needs of customers. Flexibility with work hours is required to accommodate vessel and trucking shipping schedules.
Key Responsibilities:
• Operational Leadership: Oversee and manage all aspects of our terminal operations, including loading/unloading, scheduling and dispatching.
• Management: Hire, train, motivate and evaluate terminal staff, ensuring a high-performing team.
• Safety and Compliance: Maintain a safe and compliant work environment, adhering to all relevant regulations and company policies.
• Logistics Optimization: Develop and implement strategies to optimize terminal efficiency, reduce costs, and improve customer service.
• Communication and Collaboration: Serve as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, fostering strong relationships.
• Problem Solving: Identify and resolve operational issues promptly and effectively.
Qualifications:
• Proven experience in terminal management or logistics operations.
• Experience with terminal management software and systems.
• 5-10 years of experience in a management role.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong comprehension and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Experience in dry-bulk cargo terminal operations, including handling bulk materials, conveyors, gearboxes, drive systems, and motors.
• Technical expertise in diagnosing and resolving electrical and mechanical equipment issues.
• Knowledge of relevant industry regulations and safety standards.
• Valid driver’s license and TWIC certification or ability to obtain a TWIC card.
• Physically capable of lifting, pushing, and carrying 50-70 pounds.
• Ability to perform physical tasks, including pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, crawling, standing, and walking for extended periods.
• Comfortable working at heights of 4 feet and above.
Expectations:
• Work directly with Terminal Management and Customer Service to furnish quality production results for SeaGate Customers
• Must be flexible with work schedule to accommodate incoming vessels and barges coming to port any time 24 hours a day, seven days a week including holidays and weekends.
